Commenting Basics

Comments allow registered users to discuss an article. All comments can be upvoted or downvoted.

There are two ways in which you can display comments, each with their own unique characteristics. This is known as "Thread Style". Every article can have it's own threading style which can be set from the article options. Here is a breakdown of each style:

Tree Threading Style

A tree style threaded discussion.

A "tree" style threaded discussion.

Characteristics

  • Comments are displayed based on the comment's rating. Highest rated comments show up first.
  • Sub-comments are indented
  • You can set the maximum threading depth from the article options using option "Max Comment Threading".
  • Comments below a certain score (set through the article's "Hide Comments Below Score" option) will only be displayed if a user elects to display them.

Forum Threading Style

The same discussion as above with Forum-style threading.

Characteristics

  • Primary comments are displayed based on the comment's rating. Highest rated comments show up first.
  • User must click on a primary comment to view replies.
  • You can set the maximum threading depth from the article options using option "Max Comment Threading".
  • Comments below a certain score (set through the article's "Hide Comments Below Score" option) will only be displayed if a user elects to display them.

Comment Formatting Options

Users posting a comment can use the following formatting syntax:

Links

Any standard format link will automatically become "clickable" and open in a new window.Additional InformationLinks are only permitted for user types that have been giving that privilege.

Code

Users can include code by either enclosing text between [code] and [/code] tags (seen below) or by adding a "tab" to the start of their comment.
